The post is filled with the usual advice, such as putting down a bit of paper towels and wrapping the foam around the foot or ankles to protect against wind or cold.
“This is the best way to get some insulation under your feet, and is also the most cost effective way to protect your feet against frostbite, which is the leading cause of death among adults in the United States,” reads the post.
The advice comes in response to a Reddit user who pointed out that the same advice would work with foam insulation.
“The problem is that the foam insulation will not keep out the cold,” wrote the user.
“It also makes a great place to put up snow if you can afford it.”
In addition to the advice to use a piece of foam under your toes, the post includes some tips for using a foam tote as a makeshift sleeping pad.
“Put the tote on your front, underneath your socks, and wrap your feet up around it,” the post reads.
“If you have a cold front, it will keep the snow off your feet.
If you have snow covering your feet and you are on a ski slope, it might be a good idea to lay down your shoes and then wrap your legs around the top of your tote to keep snow off them.”
